The work is based on alabaster and marble. Working the alabaster is faster than marble, therefore by the end of a 1 week course, you will be able to complete your work of art, while for the marble you will need longer time.

During the course, we will handle the aspects which are fundamental for sculpting: discuss the design, the appropriate tools, the handling of them, the cutting, the approach to the form, the composition, and finally the finishing.

It is necessary to bring your own tools.

Back of the farm with the workshop

At my farm, Podere I Gessi, in the middle of Tuscany, in September and October, I organize courses of sculpture.

The participants can choose the length of the course according to the their needs or expectations, however it’s advisable a week at least.

The classes are on an individual basis, this makes the courses attractive for both inexperienced and advanced students.

The workshop is settled in the open air, as weather in September and October is mild. The courses are run from Monday to Friday on a daily basis: morning 9.00

Sculptors of the course in 2007

to 12.00 and afternoon 15.30 to 18.30.

Fee: 300 Euro for the first week. 250 Euro for each following week. Accommodation, food and insurance are not included.

Bed and Breakfast and comfortable hotels with swimming pools and manege, are in the nearby surroundings. (tufi-toscane.info and pozzolone.it) Information can be provided.

Siena, Florence are reachable within an hour drive, as well as the Mediterranean sea. Horse riding and quad driving are also close.

On demand excursions to Florence, Volterra, Siena, the Tarotgarden of Niki de Saint Phalle, etc. can be organized.

How to reach Podere I Gessi:
From Pisa airport it is about a two hour drive.
Transavia flies on a daily basis from Amsterdam to Pisa.
Ryanair, flies from Eindhoven to Pisa. (much cheaper)

Public transport outside the big cities is not very reliable therefore I’d recommand to rent a car, if you are not using yours.

Suggestions:
Alabaster, marble and the tools to work with, are much cheaper in Italy than outside. If you come by your own car you can buy some tools and stones to take back home with you, saving money of course.
